Biomedical Engineering Director

About the role

The Biomedical Engineering Director leads the hospital’s biomedical engineering department, overseeing all aspects of medical equipment management, service contracts, and in‑house maintenance operations. This senior position ensures safe, reliable, and cost‑effective delivery of biomedical services across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and standards for the safe management of medical equipment throughout its lifecycle.
• Oversee procurement, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and decommissioning of all biomedical assets.
• Manage the departmental budget, capital plan, and service contracts, prioritising expenditures based on clinical need and risk.
• Lead and develop the biomedical engineering team, handling staffing, training, performance management and professional growth.
• Monitor equipment performance using KPIs such as downtime, response times and preventive maintenance completion.
• Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers and external service providers to ensure compliance with contracts and quality standards.

Required profile

• BSc in Biomedical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of biomedical engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
• Demonstrated strategic vision, operational excellence, and leadership competencies.
• Experience in budgeting, capital planning, and managing service contracts.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
