Accountant – Financial Control (Amman, Jordan)

About the role

The British Council in Amman is seeking an Accountant to join its Financial Control team. You will work closely with the Managed Service Provider and internal controllership teams to ensure accurate financial accounts and timely reporting in line with local tax legislation and corporate standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file local tax returns (VAT, CIT, WHT, Stamp Duty) and maintain related reconciliations.
• Maintain books of accounts according to Jordanian requirements and support month‑end and year‑end closing activities.
• Process accounting transactions including accruals, deferrals, provisions, intercompany entries and manual journal entries.
• Extract financial data and generate reports from SAP.
• Assist with internal and external audits, implement audit recommendations and ensure compliance with corporate policies.
• Support management accounting activities and preparation of management reports.

Required profile

• Relevant accounting qualification or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of Jordanian tax legislation and statutory reporting.
• Experience working with an MSP or external finance service provider.
• Attention to detail and ability to meet statutory deadlines.
