DWDM Planner – Optical Transport Network

About the role

The DWDM Planner will design, plan and optimise Silklink’s DWDM and optical transport infrastructure across backbone, metro and inter‑site environments. The role requires translating traffic forecasts and service demands into concrete wavelength and capacity plans while ensuring robust protection and diversity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM and optical transport network plans for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity.
• Convert traffic forecasts, IP/MPLS requirements and service demands into wavelength, OTN and channel capacity plans.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, route diversity, regeneration needs and ROADM/C DC‑F architectures.
• Perform optical spectrum planning using ITU‑T grid, Flex‑Grid and Super‑Channel technologies.
• Support multilayer protection strategies such as OLP, ASON and G.8032 (ERPS).
• Plan and validate SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP) synchronization requirements.
• Review inventory, fiber routes, equipment capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and implementation teams.
• Produce implementation‑ready documentation including wavelength allocation, equipment lists and migration plans.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to optical impairments, capacity limits and equipment compatibility.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in DWDM, OTN or optical transport planning and engineering.
• Proven ability to work on complex, multi‑domain projects and to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
