Shelter Technical Assistant – Amman

About the role

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a Shelter Technical Assistant to support its Urban Shelter Project in Amman and the northern region of Jordan. The role combines field assessments, technical validation, and contract preparation to ensure vulnerable households receive safe and adequate shelter solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and conduct field assessments to determine household eligibility for shelter interventions.
• Develop initial and final Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and technical drawings, explaining the scope of works to participants and landlords.
• Negotiate with landlords and tenants, prepare contracts, MoUs and purchase orders, and ensure all documentation is complete before submission.
• Provide timely feedback on case eligibility and support the shelter team across field offices as needed.
• Maintain accurate records, prepare status reports and promote PSEA standards throughout the project.

Required profile

• Experience in field‑based shelter assessments, rehabilitation or related humanitarian projects.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently under tight timelines.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities with diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to NRC policies, including PSEA and safeguarding standards.
