Public Health Specialist & Epidemiologist

About the role

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) seeks a Public Health Specialist/Epidemiologist to strengthen its humanitarian primary health care programme for Palestine refugees. Based at UNRWA headquarters in Amman, you will support health programmes across Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for the development, monitoring and assessment of public health programmes.
• Design and conduct operational research, including data collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of findings.
• Participate in health emergency responses, outbreak investigations and epidemiological studies.
• Support cross‑cutting topics such as nutrition, adolescent health, health communication and gender.
• Act as focal point for results‑based management, annual reporting and emergency management frameworks.
• Contribute to resource mobilisation by identifying funding opportunities and assisting with grant proposals.
• Assist departmental management with work planning, budgeting and human‑resources coordination.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in public health, epidemiology, epidemiology, or a related field.
• Proven experience in operational research and epidemiological investigations within humanitarian settings.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret health data for decision‑making.
• Excellent communication and networking abilities to work with diverse stakeholders.
