Senior Backend Developer

About the role

NXGEN is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help build and scale its unified security platform. You will work with a fast‑moving team that combines video surveillance, alarms, AI, and IoT sensors into a single system used worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor team members through code reviews, pair programming, and continuous technical guidance.
• Deliver high‑quality projects on time while maintaining strong engineering standards.
• Proactively identify technical risks, challenges, and improvement areas before they impact delivery.
• Own backend architecture and break down complex features into scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with product, business, and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into robust backend systems.
• Support frontend development when needed to ensure smooth end‑to‑end delivery.
• Implement security best practices, optimise databases, and enhance API performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve backend issues efficiently across different environments.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience as a Backend Developer, Full‑Stack Developer, or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, with solid experience in NestJS.
• Deep understanding of backend architecture, API design, micro‑services, and system integrations.
• Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and TimescaleDB, with strong optimisation skills.
• Familiarity with frontend concepts and ability to collaborate with UI teams when needed.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to take ownership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
