Senior Java Software Engineer - Search Team

About the role

Wiley’s Search Team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design, build and maintain the backend search systems that serve millions of users worldwide. You will work on high‑performance, scalable search solutions built on Apache Solr and a modern Java‑based stack.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain core search platform components and backend services.
• Build and enhance scalable features that improve search relevance, performance and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, testing and production environments.
• Participate in architectural discussions, technical design reviews and code reviews.
• Improve software quality through automated testing, refactoring and technical‑debt management.
• Own features and systems throughout their lifecycle, from design to deployment and support.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across multiple regions and time zones.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Self‑driven attitude with proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements.

Required skills

• Java and object‑oriented programming.
• Apache Solr.
• Docker and Kafka.
• Design and implementation of RESTful APIs.
• Unit and integration testing with JUnit and Mockito.
• Version control with Git and Linux‑based development environments.
