Senior Research Officer – Research and Development (MSNA)

About the role

The Senior Research Officer will join the Global MSNA Team within the Research Systems Unit, based in Amman. The role supports the development, delivery and improvement of Multi‑Sector Needs Assessments (MSNAs) and related tools, working closely with country teams and the Global Data Team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead updates of MSNA sectoral indicator guidance and develop public‑facing toolkit resources.
• Revise and publish the Multi‑Sector Needs Index (MSNI) guidance and support its uptake across partners.
• Develop and automate analysis pipelines, including reusable R packages and the MSNA Explorer.
• Provide technical support to country teams throughout the research cycle, from design to data cleaning and reporting.
• Act as HQ focal point for assigned MSNA countries, ensuring quality assurance and coordination.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in humanitarian research, data collection and multi‑sectoral assessments.
• Proven ability to lead methodological development and support field teams.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% for field deployments.

Required skills

• R programming and development of R package environments (e.g., humind).
• KoBoToolbox for survey design and data collection.
• Data analysis, cleaning and management for large multi‑sector datasets.
