Data and Analysis Consultant – Climate, Conflict & Child Displacement

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Data and Analysis Consultant to support a report on the intersections of climate hazards, conflict, and child displacement across PROSPECTS countries. The consultant will work remotely with UNICEF technical leads, IDMC and other partners to analyse historical and future displacement data.

Key responsibilities

• Review and harmonise historical displacement, climate, and urban growth data, ensuring age‑ and sex‑disaggregation.
• Analyse future disaster displacement‑risk model outputs and explain assumptions and limitations.
• Use GIS and transparent spatial methods to map convergence of climate hazards, conflict, displacement, child populations and service vulnerability.
• Produce publication‑ready maps, charts, tables and short captions; propose an interactive dashboard if feasible.
• Conduct desk research to interpret quantitative findings and draft methodological and evidence chapters for the report.
• Provide a handover package with documented workflows, code, metadata and references.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s) in geography, demography, statistics, data science, environmental science, development studies or related field.
• At least five years of experience in displacement data analysis, geospatial analysis or risk modelling.
• Demonstrated ability to disaggregate population data by age and sex and handle uncertainty.
• Experience drafting technical sections for policy reports and working with multiple writers and technical partners.

Required skills

• Strong GIS skills (ArcGIS or QGIS).
• Proficiency in reproducible analysis using R or Python.
• Data visualisation and creation of publication‑ready graphics.
