About the role
UNICEF is seeking an Early Warning Systems (EWS) Consultant to provide flexible technical, strategic, and programmatic support for child‑responsive early warning initiatives across approximately 20 countries and at the global level. The consultancy, lasting 19 months, will be based remotely with travel to field locations as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver technical assistance to country offices on EWS design, implementation, and integration into sectoral programmes.
- Support the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) engagement and coordinate with the 100,000 Climate Resilient Schools initiative.
- Develop proposals, guidance notes, and tools to strengthen UNICEF’s climate‑resilient programming.
- Provide strategic input to global, regional, and country‑level climate resilience initiatives.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building among UNICEF staff and partners.
Required profile
- Proven experience in early warning systems, disaster risk reduction, or climate‑resilience programming.
- Familiarity with UNICEF’s Strategic Plan (2026–2029) and the Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan (SCAP) 2023–2030.
- Ability to work independently, travel internationally, and collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with a child‑focused perspective.
Required skills
- Knowledge of early warning system frameworks and methodologies.
- Experience with climate‑resilience and humanitarian programme design.
- Understanding of UNICEF policies and sectoral integration (WASH, health, education, nutrition, social protection, child protection).
