About the role
The IMF Resident Representative Office in Jordan is seeking a qualified local Economist to support macro‑economic surveillance and technical assistance activities. The position is based in Amman and is expected to start on 1 August 2026.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor, assess and evaluate economic and political developments in Jordan, focusing on production, prices, financial sector, fiscal issues and balance of payments.
- Prepare and maintain databases, statistical outputs and written notes for IMF staff and visiting missions.
- Provide accurate, up‑to‑date information on Jordan’s macro‑economic performance and respond to internal information requests.
- Assist in capacity‑building initiatives and track technical assistance delivered by the Fund.
- Develop and sustain relationships with national technical staff, donor institutions, IFIs and other stakeholders.
- Support visiting mission staff by collecting and analysing sector data, and prepare background notes for missions.
- Coordinate with the IMF Communications Department to implement outreach and communication strategies in Jordan.
- Perform any additional duties required for the smooth functioning of the office.
Required profile
- MA or Ph.D. in macroeconomics, financial economics, international economics, monetary economics, public finance, econometrics, labor economics, political economy, international trade, or a related field.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in econometrics, statistics, finance or a comparable area.
- Jordanian nationality or the ability to obtain a valid work permit independently before the start date.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Excel.
- Experience using econometric and statistical software such as R, Stata, Matlab, Python, Julia, EViews, SAS, and RATS.
- Strong knowledge of statistical and econometric techniques.
What we offer
- One‑year local contract with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, based on performance and continued need.
