Translator & Interpreter (Grade 17)

About the role

The Translator & Interpreter will support UNRWA’s communications by providing high‑quality translation and interpretation services in Arabic and English. The role reports to the Director of Communications and contributes to the agency’s mission of assisting Palestine refugees.

Key responsibilities

• Translate documents, reports and website content between English and Arabic, ensuring accuracy.
• Interpret at internal and external meetings, press briefings and official events.
• Assist the Head of Creative Digital Multimedia Communications with editing Arabic language materials.
• Edit and proofread agency‑wide documents, including sensitive materials from various departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications, including support for other offices.

Required profile

• At least seven years of translation and interpretation experience, with three years in an international organization.
• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in English, translation, interpretation or a related field.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
• Current residence in Jordan and authorization to work in Amman.

Required skills

• Arabic‑English translation and interpretation.
• Proficiency in word processing software in both languages.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term appointment for 1 year with a 1‑year probation period.
• Monthly basic salary JD 1156.600 plus a special occupational allowance of 69.9% of basic salary.
• Provident Fund contribution (15.4% of basic salary), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days annual leave, dependency allowance where applicable.
• Sick leave (2 days per completed month), 14 weeks maternity leave, 2 weeks paternity leave.
