Assistant Store Manager

About the role

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring profitability and delivering world‑class customer service. This second‑in‑command role involves hands‑on leadership across all departments, from sales floors to back‑of‑house functions.

Key responsibilities

• Greet and serve customers according to company standards of world‑class service.
• Handle customer complaints in line with company policy.
• Maintain an inviting, well‑stocked store with products in‑stock and special orders processed correctly.
• Answer phones, assist customers on the sales floor, and supervise staff for at least 75 % of the time.
• Train staff on exemplary service and hold them accountable.
• Ensure compliance with state and county food‑safety certifications.
• Monitor store performance metrics such as sales per labor hour, average ticket, customer count, and COGS.
• Order products from approved vendors to protect margins and manage markdowns.
• Oversee inventory rotation, especially perishables, and maintain optimal product mix.
• Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations of store personnel.
• Collaborate with department managers to cross‑train staff and share resources.
