About the role
The Child Protection Officer will work within UNICEF Jordan’s Child Protection Programme, supporting the ST4LR initiative to reduce school dropout and strengthen child protection systems across 300 schools. The role focuses on data‑driven interventions, capacity building, and coordination with multiple stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Support implementation and monitoring of school‑based dropout prevention initiatives and Early Warning Systems.
- Assist schools in analysing attendance, performance and risk data to identify children at risk of dropping out.
- Build capacity of teachers, counsellors and school leaders to develop individualized support plans for at‑risk students.
- Strengthen coordination and referral pathways between schools, child protection services, psychosocial support providers and social assistance programmes.
- Facilitate training on child protection, safeguarding, positive discipline, nurturing care, case identification and referral mechanisms.
- Support school‑ and community‑based interventions that promote safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments.
- Monitor counselling and psychosocial support initiatives addressing bullying, violence, emotional distress and other protection concerns.
- Conduct awareness‑raising and community engagement activities related to child rights, violence prevention, positive parenting and inclusion.
- Monitor programme implementation through field visits, data collection, reporting, documentation of good practices and preparation of technical reports and success stories.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Protection, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Human Rights, Public Policy or a related field; a master’s degree is an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in child protection, education, social work, safeguarding, case management, psychosocial support or related areas.
- Experience working on school safety, violence prevention, student retention or programmes supporting vulnerable children and adolescents.
- Knowledge of referral mechanisms, child protection case management, safeguarding standards and psychosocial support approaches.
- Experience facilitating trainings, workshops and capacity‑building activities.
- Strong analytical, monitoring, data management and reporting skills.
