RF/SATCOM Technician

About the role

The RF/SATCOM Technician is responsible for installing, sustaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a broad spectrum of radio‑frequency and satellite communication equipment used in line‑of‑sight, beyond‑line‑of‑sight, and wideband applications. The role ensures that critical communications systems remain operational and meet performance standards in demanding environments.

Key responsibilities

• Install, connect, secure, and interconnect transmitters, power supplies, antenna assemblies, and related components.
• Troubleshoot and resolve installation, repair, and modification issues on communications equipment, including multiple waveform and encryption devices.
• Employ orbiting satellite, line‑of‑sight, and tropospheric scatter techniques to maintain system integrity.
• Conduct tests, alignments, and calibrations to restore and optimize system performance.
• Interpret layout drawings, schematics, and pictorial diagrams to diagnose malfunctions.
• Ensure compliance with maintenance publications, safety standards, and technical manuals.
• Maintain accurate inspection, maintenance, and equipment logs, including meter readings and data collection forms.
• Requisition, account for, and turn in supplies and materials as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with formal electronics training (military technical school, vocational college, or equivalent apprenticeship).
• Minimum IAT Level II baseline certification per AFMAN 17‑1303 and familiarity with IP fundamentals.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret security clearance (US citizenship required).
• Medical eligibility for US CENTCOM examination.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with RF/SATCOM equipment such as CM‑200, CM‑300, GRC‑171/211, GRR‑23/24, PCAS, GRT‑21/22, PRC‑117F/G, RT‑1319, TRC‑176, URC‑200, EPLRS, MIDS LVT 2/11, AN/TRC‑214, Joint Radio Relay (JR2), Cornet TVCS‑L, LHSC, RT9000D, 721S‑1/2, ALE, Have Quick, SINCGARS, KY‑100, VSAT VRC‑103, TTRS, RT‑1747, Sun Air RT‑9000, Hawkeye Lite, Ranger 1200, iDirect 850/950 Modem, 2050E Modem.
• Knowledge of orbiting satellite, line‑of‑sight, and tropospheric scatter communication techniques.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical schematics, layout drawings, and pictorial diagrams.
• Ability to perform precise alignment and calibration procedures for maximum system efficiency.
