Senior Mechanical Engineer - Jordan

About the role

CDM Smith is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer for its Building Water Infrastructure (BWI) Task Order, an architecture and engineering services agreement covering planning, engineering design, construction supervision and related support in the water and wastewater field. The engineer acts as resident project representative (RPR) for the Jordan team, supporting the Project Manager and Senior Construction Manager. The role is a 48-hour week, about 80% in the field and 20% in the office, with field work across sites in different governorates of Jordan.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as lead mechanical for assigned construction packages, giving trusted technical guidance to the Project Manager and Senior Construction Manager.
• Review contract drawings, specifications, design criteria, equipment schedules, bills of quantities and supporting documentation to safeguard the integrity of the mechanical design.
• Evaluate and respond to mechanical RFIs, technical queries, proposed substitutions, deviations and contractor recommendations.
• Identify nonconforming, defective, incomplete, damaged or unsafe work, document observations and recommend corrective measures.
• Oversee installation, commissioning and integration of pumps, process and utility piping, valves, HVAC and ventilation, plumbing, fire protection, odor-control facilities, lifting equipment, fuel systems and other project-specific assets.
• Contribute to the evaluation of change proposals, variation orders, claims, work-change directives and extensions of time.
• Promote quality, safety, environmental stewardship, integrity and compliance, and communicate incidents and concerns through the right channels.
• Review testing and performance results, assess contractor-proposed modifications and verify systems meet design criteria.
• Prepare memoranda and technical reports for the Project Manager and Senior Construction Manager.
• Attend contractor meetings, take minutes, accompany visiting inspectors, coordinate with the independent soils and materials testing laboratory, and maintain orderly project files.
• Prepare daily reports and logs, keeping records of contractor hours, weather, work changes, site visitors and activities, and submit periodic progress reports.
