Driver for Internal and External Candidates (Grade 04)

About the role

UNRWA, a UN agency supporting Palestine refugees, is recruiting a driver for internal and external candidates at the FO Jordan duty station. The incumbent drives assigned Agency vehicles, supervises vehicle maintenance and follows diplomatic pouch and VIP protocols. The appointment is a fixed-term contract of 1 year with a 1-year probation, at Grade 04 (monthly basic salary 541.300 JOD), and is open to internal and external candidates residing in Jordan.

Key responsibilities

• Drive assigned Agency vehicles safely, within traffic laws and vehicle limits, and load/unload equipment and luggage as needed.
• Keep driving licence, passport, visas and vehicle documents valid; report traffic violations and vehicle issues to the supervisor.
• Oversee daily vehicle checks (oil, battery, brakes, water, tyres) and keep the vehicle clean and in good condition.
• Follow accident reporting procedures and know emergency and roadside service numbers.
• Ensure passengers hold valid travel documents (UNLP, visa) and assist them on board and off; protect diplomatic pouch confidentiality.
• When driving a senior official (VIP), follow protocol, act as part of the close protection team, and provide first aid if needed.
• When driving a minibus (7-9 passengers), plan routes, stops and passenger safety.

Required profile

• Completion of basic education (10th grade).
• At least three years' experience driving Type 4 vehicles (commercial passenger and cargo vehicles up to 7,500 kg).
• Valid Type 4 driving licence or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate in English and fluency in Arabic.
• Currently residing in Jordan, within commuting distance of the duty station, with a valid work permit.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, inspection and fault reporting.
• Desirable: knowledge of Ministry, embassy and consulate procedures; health and safety, close protection, first aid training; understanding of the refugee context.
