Regional Counsel – Legal, Regulatory and Commercial Matters

About the role

Marsh People & Investments, part of Marsh's India, Middle East & Africa business, is looking for a Counsel to join its regional legal team in Amman. The role sits at the centre of a fast-paced, high-profile regional business, supporting colleagues across the Middle East on legal, regulatory and commercial matters. It is a hybrid arrangement with three days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical legal advice on corporate and commercial matters for Marsh and Mercer businesses in the Middle East
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, subcontracts, vendor agreements and related documents
• Support stakeholders on contentious matters such as disputes, pre-litigation issues, employment matters and commercial concerns
• Manage external counsel, including instructions, progress tracking and review of legal outputs
• Assist with end-to-end handling of E&O claims, including triage, investigation, resolution, closure and trend analysis
• Support internal investigations, document preservation, matter intake, document review, reporting and records management
• Keep up with legal and regulatory developments and assess their implications for the business
• Identify legal and commercial risks and help develop mitigation strategies
• Contribute to training, awareness, policy development and process improvement, and assist with RFP responses and business development

Required profile

• Recognised legal qualification and admission to practice in Jordan, another Middle East jurisdiction and/or a common law jurisdiction
• 3-5 years of post-qualification experience, ideally in a law firm or in-house legal team
• Strong experience in contentious matters and litigation, especially commercial and employment disputes
• Ability to work independently, use sound judgment and manage competing priorities
• Excellent written and spoken English; Arabic is a plus

Required skills

• Proven ability to draft and negotiate contracts with a clear understanding of legal and contractual risk
• Analytical, organisational and drafting skills
• Experience in professional liability insurance or claims-related work, and regulatory advisory experience in insurance or financial services, are a plus
