Senior Architect – Grade 18 (HQ Amman)

About the role

The Senior Architect will support the Chief of the Architecture & Design Division at UNRWA’s headquarters in Amman, contributing to the development and implementation of architectural policies, standards and work plans.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Chief in developing, applying and reviewing architectural policies, strategies, technical instructions and standards.
• Identify and analyse design risks, constraints and trade‑offs, and propose cost‑effective, implementable solutions.
• Review and provide technical clearance for preliminary designs, feasibility studies and concept options in line with UNRWA policies and local/international codes.
• Examine final detailed drawings, specifications and tender documents to ensure compliance with technical instructions, standards and best practices.
• Prepare, update and disseminate division procedures, design checklists, tender templates and manual content.
• Coordinate with field and HQA counterparts to ensure consistent application of agency‑wide design standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in architectural design and project delivery within large organisations.
• Strong knowledge of local and international building codes and regulations.
• Ability to develop and review architectural policies, standards and technical instructions.
• Proven capability to assess design risks and propose mitigation measures.

Required skills

• Technical clearance of architectural designs and tender documentation.
• Review of architectural drawings, specifications and presentations.
• Familiarity with UNRWA design policies, standards and guidelines.
• Understanding of local/international codes of practice.
