Senior Design Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of complex substation projects in the Middle East region. The role involves overseeing equipment layout, structural calculations, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate overall project engineering deliverables for primary substation scope, including equipment layouts, earthing, cable routing, and lightning protection.
• Prepare and review structural design calculations and drawings for AIS and GIS equipment, gantry towers, and support structures.
• Review supplier documentation for transformers, switchgear, and other substation components and approve BOQ estimates.
• Collaborate with civil and MEP disciplines to ensure proper integration of mechanical and electrical systems.

Required profile

• 8‑10 years of primary engineering experience on 33‑400 kV GIS and AIS substation projects, preferably in Jordan, Egypt, Africa, or the Middle East.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Proven ability to lead technical coordination with internal teams and external vendors.

Required skills

• Design of GIS and AIS substations, including equipment arrangement and layout.
• Structural design criteria knowledge and load combination calculations per international standards.
• Short‑circuit, cantilever, conductor sizing, cable ampacity, earthing and lightning protection calculations.
• Proficiency with Revit or AutoCAD for drafting.
• Experience preparing BOQ for primary equipment, gantries, cabling, earthing and lightning protection systems.
