Quantity Surveyor – Civil Construction

About the role

We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor (Civil) to lead cost control, commercial management and contract administration for civil construction projects. The role supports project delivery by preparing cost estimates, managing bills of quantities and monitoring financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review pre‑tender and post‑tender cost estimates, BOQs, tender analyses and contractor payment schedules for earthworks, foundations, structures, drainage, utilities and roads.
• Administer contracts and sub‑contracts, ensuring compliance with terms, milestone payments, retention and performance bonds.
• Measure progress, produce interim valuation reports and monthly applications for payment, and recommend contractor payments.
• Assess and prepare variation orders, cost change proposals and entitlement claims, negotiate resolutions with contractors.
• Maintain cost‑control systems, update cost‑to‑complete forecasts, produce cost reports, cash‑flow projections and earned‑value inputs.
• Review contractor invoices, progress claims and final accounts for accuracy against BOQs and site measurements.
• Support procurement by preparing BOQs, schedules of rates and evaluating tender returns.
• Coordinate site measurement activities, take‑offs from drawings and BIM models, and validate quantities for payment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in quantity surveying/commercial management on civil or infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to prepare BOQs, cost estimates, interim valuations and final accounts.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods for earthworks, foundations, structural works, drainage, utilities and temporary works.
• Familiarity with NEC, FIDIC, JCT or equivalent contract types and practical contract administration experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency with measurement and estimating software such as CostX, Cubit and WinQS.
• Advanced Excel skills for cost analysis and reporting.
• Experience with commercial management systems and invoice workflows.
• Knowledge of Primavera P6 or MS Project for interfacing with planning teams.
• Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, BOQs and BIM models.
• Understanding of Earned Value concepts and basic project accounting principles.
