Designer / Product Development Consultant

About the role

The Designer / Product Development Consultant will lead the conception, design, development and launch preparation of the JOHUD Al Ayadi 2027 Collection – a distinctive range of Jordanian gifts, souvenirs and lifestyle products that showcase local skills, materials and craftsmanship while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women artisans and local producers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the overall creative vision, design language, material direction and product architecture for the 2027 collection.
• Define target customer segments and establish a pricing architecture that balances market appeal with fair income for producers.
• Create a coherent collection identity that can be extended in future seasons.
• Conduct field visits across Jordan through JOHUD Al Ayadi Community Development Centres to identify women artisans, home‑based businesses and local producers with commercial potential.
• Map local skills, materials, production capacities, lead times and opportunities for inclusion.
• Develop an indicative range of 15‑25 products across categories such as ceramics, textiles, embroidery, weaving, accessories, natural products, paper and wood.
• Iteratively prototype and refine products with producers to ensure feasibility, quality, cost‑effectiveness and market relevance.
• Oversee testing, costing, quality development and preparation for reliable production and launch.
• Utilise Beit Al Bawadi as a ceramics producer and creative resource for the wider collection.

Required profile

• Proven experience in product design and development, preferably for handcrafted or artisanal goods.
• Strong creative vision with the ability to translate cultural heritage into market‑ready designs.
• Demonstrated ability to engage directly with artisans, women‑led businesses and small producers.
• Understanding of sustainable livelihood models and ethical sourcing.
• Excellent project management and communication skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of the Jordanian craft sector is an advantage.
