Translator & Interpreter – Communications

About the role

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is seeking a skilled Translator & Interpreter to support its Communications Division. This position will ensure accurate bilingual communication across internal and external audiences, contributing to UNRWA’s mission of assisting Palestine refugees.

Key responsibilities

• Translate documents, reports, and website content between English and Arabic, maintaining precision and cultural relevance.
• Provide interpretation services at meetings, press briefings, and official events as required.
• Assist the Head of Creative Digital Multimedia Communications with editing Arabic language materials and collaborate with the Arabic desk.
• Edit and proofread agency‑wide documents, including sensitive materials from legal, HR, ethics, and protection units.
• Support final production of key documents, bulletins, and issuances for various departments.
• Undertake additional duties assigned by the Director of Communications.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in English, translation, interpretation or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team, with strong political awareness.
• Commitment to UN core values of integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity.
• Excellent analytical, planning, and result‑driven competencies.

Required skills

• English‑Arabic translation proficiency.
• English‑Arabic interpretation proficiency.
• Word processing in both English and Arabic.
